In this article we want to explain you what a Alternative Layout is.

With an alternative layout you can have more then one template override of the same kind. You can modify a little bit the code of the default.php file and you have a template override. But that is not really funny. If you do so, all outputs of the overriden component or module will be affected by your tenplate override. If you rename the file default.php in "whatever.php", you get an alternative layout and you can decide which module or which output of a component should look differently.

So it is possible to have more then one override and different modules or component output of the same kind will look differently according to the selected alternative layout.
